Anton Bakov is presented with the title of His Highness the Duke
Today is a memorable day in the life of Archchancellor of the Imperial Throne Anton Alekseevich Bakov: Emperor Nikolas III has confered the title of Serene Duke on the Archchancellor.
In the letters patent the Emperor states that he has granted the title and the High position “as a gratitude for the services to Our Monarchy and in view of the 50th anniversary”.
The title of Serene Duke is hereditary. In the letters patent it is stated that the descendants of Anton Alekseevich, born in legal union, are also called Serene Dukes.
In addition, Emperor Nicolas III presented Anton Alekseevich with an ancient icon of Great Martyr Catherine, which used to belong to the House of Romanov and accompanied Great Russian Empresses Catherine I and Catherine II. On this occasion, Bakov posted on his Facebook page the following:
“The icon, a present from the Emperor on my 50th birthday.
From the palace of Vladimir, now the House of Sciences in Saint Petesburg, through Helsingfors to Coburg, then to Amorbach. Great Duchess Maria Kirillovna, married Duchess Leiningen, honoured this modest house icon as a memory of her fourth great-grandmother Catherine the Great and her sixth great-grandmother Catherine I. Is it an accident, the newly found Empress Catherine Fyodorovna? It is with trembling hands that I am touching the History of the Great Family (let the Yeltsins forgive me)”.
