On April 26th William Shakespeare was born, who died 400 years ago
Exactly 400 years ago, in 1616 the great English play-writer William Shakespeare died, he was born on April 26th, 1564.
Our magazine at its time has prepared a lot of information about life and work of William Shakespeare. There were a lot of mysterious things among that which were connected both with work and life of great play-writer.
Most works of Shakespeare have been written since 1589 till 1613. His early plays mostly can be referred to comedies and histories, where Shakespeare managed to succeed. Then there was a period of tragedies in his work, the following works can be included in this list: Hamlet, King Lear, Othello and Macbeth which are supposed to be the best in English. At the end of his work Shakespeare wrote several tragicomedies and also he cooperated with other writers.
Many plays of Shakespeare were published during his lifetime. In 1623 two friends of Shakespeare John Heminges and Henry Condell published the First Folio, collected edition of all but two Shakespeare’s plays which now are included in canon. Later some more plays (or their parts) were recognized as Shakespeare’s by different researchers with different degrees of proof.
During his lifetime Shakespeare got honourable mentions about his works but he became really popular only in XIX century. Especially representatives of Romantic movement and Victorians admired Shakespeare. Shakespeare’s works stay popular till present days, they are constantly studying and redefining according to political and cultural conditions.
