The University of Miami will establish the first in the USA chair of atheism
The New York Times informs that in the American University of Miami the chair of atheism will be established. Money for the idea realization were received from a voluntary funder.
Louis Appignani, who is 83 years old, is a businessman, he told that he supposed that atheism problem was global in the USA. He gave approximately 2 million dollars to stop discrimination of this movement. More than that the man offers to consider the atheism question of the legislative level.
The Pew Research Center has made a survey among the USA citizens to find out to what religion they belong. So it was found out that the percent of atheists rises each year. In 2007 only 16% of surveyed were atheists, and in seven years this percent has risen up to 24.
Atheists in the USA actually feel discrimination. Early this year the group of such movement’s representatives from Ohio offered to take off the phrase “In God we trust” from American banknotes. Michael Newdow, who was one of activists of the movement, claimed that these words contradicted to the country’s constitution. It is said there that the church must not touch upon the power.
