Today the day of Slavic writing and culture is celebrated all over the world, especially in Slavic countries, this holiday is coincided with the memory day of Saints equal to the apostles Cyril and Methodius.
Different events are being held today, mainly concerts, historical orthodox exhibitions. This holiday is celebrated under different names on 24 May in Bulgaria, Belorussia, Macedonia, Ukraine and in unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, and in Czech and Slovakia – on 5 July. In Russia holiday concerts and events are being held all over the country: from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad. So the Orthodox Church and Authorities honour the memory and glorify Saints brothers equal to the apostles Cyril and Methodius – creators of the Slavic writing.
Holiday programs in all the cities will start at 1 pm Moscow time. The concert in Moscow will be held with direct telecast from Novosibirsk, Kaliningrad and Kazan. Music bands will play famous childish songs. In the year of the Cinema in Russia it is decided to include in the program songs from famous feature and animation films. The main topic of the holiday is creation of the primary source of the Slavic writing – ABC-book.
In 2010 according to the Edict of the President of Russian Federation the Day of Slavic writing and culture is celebrated on 24 May each year.
Since 2013 the central event of the holiday has been the great choral concert which took place in Moscow. Since 2014 such concerts have been held in all regions of Russia from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad. Choral performance of songs became on original symbol of national unity, union of people of different generations.
